80% of the people in India are living in rural areas and the main source of
living for people in this country is agriculture. There is a well established
"village culture" in rural India. By tradition, Indian villages are
well planned, but since the population is very high, the available natural resources
are not adequate. This situation forces the society to find new ways, and new
means to produce for the need of the community. Village development is therefore
a vital factor in improving the conditions for the person living in the village.
The most important areas for village development are:
o Assessments of the available resources in the village
o Socio-economic survey of the community
o Infrastructure and the "know-how" and skills to promote village
development
o The technology and methodology to do sustainable improvements
o Promoting village development through a participatory development approach
